Barnacles On Rocks, Weston Beach, Point Lobos State Reserve, California, 1949. Edward Weston took classes out to Pt. Lobos and coached them in "seeing." He may have been present while Hyde made these early photographs at Point Lobos. Edward Weston's influence carried on for the rest of Philip Hyde's life. After Photography School, Philip Hyde corresponded with Edward Weston and considered him his mentor not only in photography but also in his simple, unadorned lifestyle and commitment to the art of photography. Philip Hyde visited Wildcat Hill in Carmel numerous times and camped on the lawn just as he had during class field trips.
