Philip Hyde first met Ansel Adams in 1946 in the summer session of Ansel Adams’ new photography department at the California School of Fine Arts now the San Francisco Art Institute. Philip Hyde later taught Ansel Adams Gallery Workshops for many years beginning in the mid 1970's after Best's Studio was renamed the Ansel Adams Gallery.
