Tenpeak Mountain Range from slopes above Image Lake, Glacier Peak Wilderness Area, North Cascades National Park, Washington, 1956. Widely Exhibited, Collected and Published first in "The Wild Cascades: Forgotten Parkland" 1965 by Harvey Manning, with photographs by Ansel Adams, Philip Hyde, Martin Litton, David Simons, Bob and Ira Spring, John Warth and others, edited by David Brower in the Sierra Club Exhibit Format Series. The Sierra Club, Wilderness Society, Federation of Western Outdoor Clubs and other environmental groups in the Pacific Northwest formed a coalition to advocate for a North Cascades Natinal Park. "Tenpeak Range” became an icon of outdoor photography as the primary campaign image on a poster, mailing cards and other conservation materials. During the 1960’s efforts, Barnes Press lost the original 4X5 transparency, as well as 13 other Philip Hyde vintage color originals used in the project, including the book cover image, "Lake Ann." However, in June 2009, an unknown 35 mm version of "Tenpeak Range" surfaced. After being lost for 40 years, the photograph will again be exhibited in galleries, museums and in the homes of those who wish to preserve a piece of American natural history.
