Rainbow Over Athabaska Falls, Jasper National Park, Alberta, Canada, 1995, This image was selected for a planned Canadian portfolio, but never published. Philip Hyde made this photograph at age 74 with a medium format 6X7 Rolleiflex SL66, a much lighter outfit than his large format 4X5, 5X7 or 8X10 Deardorf View Cameras. He traveled with Ardis in a 1984 Ford Van to the Canadian Rockies in 1992, 1995 and 1997. The trip in 1995 when he made this photograph, was one of the last major photographic expeditions of his life. He began to lose his eyesight in 1999, but photographed and printed into early 2000. He was fully blind by the end of 2000 and lost Ardis in 2002. His story is one of tenacity, a gentle love of nature and triumph over adversity.
